Gracias, Mexico! Thanksgiving in Careyes

Our GLOBAL TRIBE RETREATS trip to Costa Careyes, Mexico this Thanksgiving was absolutely AWESOME! Read on to hear about some highlights including getting (happily) stranded in the Pacific Ocean, an emotional Thanksgiving yoga session, and a yoga-loving Tarantula named Lola! (No joke).

Redefining Thanksgiving: Global Tribe Style

Who says Thanksgiving has to be the same ol' same ol'?

Not I, says the wise traveling one! We just got back from one of the most fun-filled, love-filled, family-filled, (yes, "family", as an all-inclusive global family) trips EVER!

The weather was glorious and sunny, the ocean was warm, the people were friendly, the accommodations were spectacular, the surroundings artistic, the food and drinks flavorful, and the staff was sublime and incredibly gracious (not to mention their amazing home cooked meals!) and best of all our Thanksgiving Day: Global Tribe Style.

¡ Hola, Mexico !...

This retreat was a smaller more intimate group: only eleven of us plus the friendly locals.

Costa Careyes is the hidden gem of Mexico. It’s a bit off the beaten track, never overcrowded with tourists. It’s best described as an Italian village in seaside Mexico. No wonder it has been a haven for elite artists and reclusive celebs for decades! It has a style unique to itself.

We flew into Manzanillo and were whisked off in big comfortable suburbans by drivers who could have qualified for the Indianapolis 500. It was a bit nerve wracking, but at the same time exciting; sipping on baby Coronas and watching the beautiful green tropical foliage whiz by.

The 8 bedroom villa that awaited us was situated on a hill above the Pacific, offering us 360 degree views. Truly spectacular, especially at sunrise sunset and the blazing full moon!

On Thanksgiving we had the special privilege of observing the sunset immediately followed by the full moon rising over the eastern horizon. That prompted an immediate tequila toast!

¿Como se Dice "Namaste" En Español?

The yoga classes were full with the locals of Careyes and a very special guest: "Lola the resident tarantula" I kid you not. Unafraid of yogis, she would come every morning and observe our class from the screen door that separated us from the wild. I think she liked the music.

Friday we did our ritual boat trip which was beyond spectacular!! Snorkeling with 75 ft visibility, live coral, fish, dolphins, sting rays... We even caught an El Dorado (Mahi mahi ) on the way back. (Well Kevin did, quite a spectacular event to watch, like watching wild world of sports fishing on tv except live adrenaline pumping in your face enough to cause our normally fearless organizer Nina screaming to the other end of the boat for safety🤣).

Those fish are powerful and dangerous when on deck. No joke!

Oh! AND I forgot to mention we lost a motor on our return! So it took four times as long to return, but we were rewarded greatly by sea turtles, dolphins, and our El Dorado. Life works in mysterious ways. We would have missed out on all of that had the engines been full throttle....

New Experiences...

The sound bath/ meditation at the Copa was mind blowing. This giant artistic cement cup at the edge of nowhere looked like something out of a science fiction novel. The acoustics were unlike anything I can describe.

The long and the short of is we were constantly surrponded by the nonstop magic that infiltrated our days, our gatherings, our yoga sessions, our whole trip.

The last class was healing to say the least. We all dropped our guards and our vulnerable sides came rushing forward. Not a dry eye in the yoga room. It was emotionally moving and transformative.

With Gratitude...

A lot happened in our four days in Careyes! It was an epic and memorable Thanksgiving like no other.

I sincerely hope to make it a tradition! A special time where all lovable misfits can come together and revel in the great fantasmigorical (not an official word) mystery and joy of a new groovy kind of Thanksgiving celebration.

Until The Maldives, stay cosmic and a little bit outrageous. Adventure on tribes mates!
